| Old Farms was an 88 acre horse farm in central Connecticut with approximately 25 acres of wetlands. The site included a circa 1925 barn which was a mail-order structure from Sears and Roebuck. Zoning was for 60,000 SF lots, however JWA developed a land plan to reduce the lots to 40,000 SF and arrange the sites around a central open field to reduce disturbance of the land. The barn was retained as a site feature and continued to function as a stable. The estate house lots were carefully sited around the open space and ponds located through the community. House designs incorporated traditional New England styles and materials. |
